  • What is required to rent a unit?

    A one month security (refundable) deposit, Credit Card or Debit Card must be kept on file,  License of everyone who will have access to your unit.  a one time administrative fee.  Social security number (for collection purposes only)

  • What do I do if the office is closed but I need to speak with Someone?

    For Non emergencies call the office 860-283-7225 and leave a message or email us.  For all after hours emergency calls,  call our business Thomaston Oil  860-283-4878 and leave a message with the answering  service and someone will call you back. 

  • What are my payment options?

     You may pay in person, call or use the after hour drop or online through our website, or via Automated Payment Plan.  We accept all 4 major credit cards - Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover.  For hassle-free account management and extra convenience, we also give you the option to pre-authorize your monthly payments either by credit card , debit or ACH, so you'll never have to worry about missing a payment or incurring late fees.  

  • Will I be able to access my storage when the office is closed?

    Absolutely!  TSS access hours are 24/7 as long as your account is not in default.  

  • Do I need to sign a contract in order to rent a space?

    We give our tenants maximum flexibility, we do not require a fixed-term contract.  In practice, this means that you have the freedom to rent storage for as little or as long as you wish.  You are required to sign a rental agreement at the time you move in, Which continues on a month-to-month basis until you decide to move out.   (see forms "intent to Vacate)  See Agreement #7

  • Can I bring my own lock?

    Absolutely!   Tenants must supply their own lock.  We do sell them in our office but you are not required to buy from us 

  • What do I do if I lose the key to my storage?

    Tenants must supply their own locks.   But don't panic! If you lose the key to your lock on your unit, we will need to remove the lock during our office hours.  You must notify the manager of the situation so that you can make the appropriate arrangement at the property.  Please be aware that additional costs may be involved. 

  • Can I share access to my storage unit with someone else?

    Yes!  You can specify anyone you'd like to authorize to access the storage unit within your agreement.  They will need to provide their licence to be kept on file and a phone number.  For everyones' safety, please ensure that such individuals have your unit's curren access code and a key to the lock.  TSS will not provide access codes or open locks for anyone.  Please do not SHARE information to anyone other than those who have access. 

  • Are there any items that are prohibited in the storage?

    Yes.  We do not allow hazardous items, as they pose various risks when placed in storage, and could increase the risk of damage to your goods and ghe goods to others,directly or indirectly.  For a full list of items we do not allow, please see the items clearly outlined in our lease agreement, but common examples include food, which attracts pests, other perishable goods, flammable materials such as propane, or materials with risk of explosion, such as firearms and ammunition, or paint canisters.  

    Tenants are also prohibited from storing hazardous materials anywhere on our premises.  If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact the rental office or property manager directly for further information. See Agreement #9

  • Will my belongings be safe?

    At TSS we're dedicated to keeping you and your belongings safe with our security and surveillance systems, proactive maintenance, and ummatch protection against the unexpected. 

  • Do you provide dollies and /carts to help move in?

    We provide dollies and flatbed carts to make your move into your unit even easier.  They are located within the hallways of the facilities.  Our Torrington location currently does not have them on the premises, but you may sign a dollie out from the main office.  


  • Do I need to have insurance on my unit?

    Absolutely!  At TSS we require all tenants to carry insurance.  Whether you use your homeowners/ renters insurance.  We advise you to call your agent to make sure you are covered and also check on your deductible.  Let your agent know we do offer insurance coverage through Storsmart Bader.  If you are storing a vehicle we must have a current copy of your insurance and registration and title if available. See agreement 1D , #9

  • Can I store a vehicle?

    Yes! We do have sizes to accommodate vehicles. You must fill out a Connecticut Outdoor Lease Agreement.  We must also have a copy of your current insurance and registration and title if available.  NO unregistered vehicles are allowed.
